WApp Award Guidelines

Prizes

The prize pool includes the following;

  • $80,000 cash
  • $5,000 in-kind services provided by a professional application developer to assist with project direction/prototype planning
  • 3kW rack in a NEXTDC datacentre for 3 years. Valued at $60,000 (note: does not include connectivity)
  • a tablet or mobile device up to a value of $1,000

Timeline

  • Launch 1st of August.
  • Applications close 7th of October 5pm. No late applications accepted.
  • Final judging and winner announced 3rd of November.

Judging

The judging for the awards will be conducted by an independent panel. Written applications will be assessed by the judging panel and five finalists will be selected to present their application to the panel of judges as part of the Univation 2011 program. The judge’s decision on allocation of prize’s is at the complete discretion of the panel and no correspondence will be entered into in relation to the final selection or any part of the judging process.

Eligibility

  • Application must describe a mobile computing application
  • To apply you must be a staff member, student or alumni of Curtin, ECU, Murdoch or UWA.
  • As a minimum, applicants must have a clear idea of the user interface and screen shot mock ups of prototype product. A working alpha prototype is strongly encouraged. There are a number of web based tools that can help with this process including http://balsamiq.com/products/mockups and https://apptank.com/ .
  • Applications that are already commercially available are not eligible.

Confidential Information

Written applications will be treated as commercial in confidence and only used for the purpose of judging the awards program. To proceed as a finalist, you will be required to present your opportunity at a public forum as part of the judging process.

Intellectual Property

Ownership of intellectual property will not be transferred as part of the application process. If you are a staff member of a University and have developed your application in the course of your duties then it will be owned in accordance with the intellectual property policy of your employer. In all other cases, intellectual property will rest with the applicant unless there is a written agreement to the contrary.
