Murdoch University Commercialisation Office

Murdoch University has a strong culture of research collaboration with industry partners in core areas including veterinary and biomedical sciences, agricultural biotechnology, hydrometallurgy, environmental technology solutions, renewable energy and water technologies. This has led to significant successes, as evidenced by international R&D and licensing collaborations with large pharmaceutical and agricultural life science companies. Recently Murdoch has established the National Centre of Excellence in Desalination in partnership with a number of Australian Universities and both Australian and Western Australian Governments. The Centre works closely with a number of industry partners both in Australia and internationally.

The role of the Murdoch University Commercialisation Office, established in 2007, is to encapsulate our research and intellectual property opportunities at the earliest stage, and to translate these benefits to industry by working closely with industry through research partnerships, collaborations and licensing.

The Commercialisation Office also supports the formation, business planning and seeking of investment funds for spin-out companies including, Nemgenix Pty Ltd, Spirogene Pty Ltd and Scicom Pty Ltd, which have all received seed investment through the Murdoch Westscheme Enterprise Partnership Fund.

Our office assists researchers in:

• Identifying and protecting intellectual property
• Identifying industry partners for commercial projects
• Collaboration R&D and licensing of innovations and technologies
• The preparation of business plans/market evaluations
• Facilitating and coordinating new commercial ventures
• Seeking commercial/investment funds for spin-out companies
